Homes
Architect: Dennis Gibbens
This beautiful, light-filled, three story modernist beach house is in the heart of Venice. Its clean lines and fluidity accentuate this true example of Southern California architecture in the early 21st Century. A curved oak stairway leads to a double-height living space that soars over 18 feet. A courtyard and two exterior decks comprise over 1000 square feet of finished exterior space to make the most of outdoor living.

Architect: CC Partners
A beautifully designed home that uses angles and arches to broaden the space and draw attention toward the front terrace and beach beyond. Changes in level maximize openness yet define living spaces and allow sunlight to filter throughout.

Architect: Paul Bailey
Softly curved and juxtaposed floating concrete walls create intimate spaces and a cocoon-like kitchen in this home designed by the owner. In the spirit of a “home as castle,” fortress shapes dominate in the master bedroom where a large round turret houses the shower in the master bath. Sculpture and art by local artists and the owner accentuate the influence of Venice’s modern art scene.

Architect: Paul Bailey
The open floor plan in this home demonstrates how structure evokes dramatically different moods in homes with similar footprints. The generous open space in this home is filled with light as you ascend to the beautifully designed roof garden and the captivating view from Pt. Dume to Palos Verdes.

Architect: Antoine Predock
Recipient of the 2006 aia Gold Medal, Antoine Predock is renowned for designing buildings that grow out of their unique landscapes. This house examines the relationship between land and water and sets up a series of ocean vantage points. In the entry, the divergent lines of a granite “runway” reverse perspective, collapse space and bring the ocean closer. The noted black granite monolith, that appears to dissolve behind a film of recirculated water, merges visually with the ocean when viewed from within.

Architect: Miguel Angelo Flores
This design embraces the panorama of the ocean, beach, bike path and pier through a two-story wall of tinted glass that wraps around the sides of the house in a stepped pattern. The light filters into its core, illuminating a three story central atrium, which is animated by a swirl of arcing stairs and Paul Chilkov’s Needle Waterfall that rises 20 feet from the ground floor entrance.

Architect: Lenny Steinberg Design Associates
The owner’s design resolved the problem of a narrow lot and created dramatic volumes by exaggerating the loft, repositioning the overhang and condensing the design of the staircase. The ocean view is brilliant when the large glass doors slide open and disappear completely into a corner wall, extending the living room into the terrace. Slightly canted walls increase the sense of breadth to the southern vista, while ribbons of glass at unexpected levels pick up light and the eclectic panorama of Venice. The designer’s furniture brings a synthesis of form and grace to the living spaces.
